The Ignat Kaneff Inspiration Award has been added to the BILD Awards vast portfolio. This new award is presented to an individual or member company dedicated to supporting newcomers to Canada, by providing them with employment, training, and mentorship opportunities. These individuals are philanthropic, conscious of the impact they are making on their communities and promote inclusivity for a stronger and more diverse country. The award was established in the name of Ignat Kaneff, who passed away last year.
Not unlike his ability to encourage and inspire those around him, tonight’s recipient of the Ignat Kaneff Inspiration Award is the owner and founder of a residential building company. An immigrant himself, he deeply understands the importance of supporting his community, especially newcomers to Canada. He is a third-generation builder whose easy rapport with clients, collaborative nature, and ultimate reliability have resulted in long lasting relationships and a solid reputation in the industry.
He didn’t hesitate to lend his support to many of the 5,000+ Syrian refugees who arrived in Toronto, sponsored by the Armenian Community Centre in North York, under his leadership as Chair. He employs several at his company as general laborers, and through his subcontracting businesses. His efforts are not limited to groups of Canadian newcomers. He searches for opportunities to help mentor individuals so they can have a thriving industry career.
His spirit of generosity is embedded in the company culture as they support local charitable efforts each year. Last year, the company donated more than $16,000 to Horizons for Youth, which provides at-risk and homeless youth in Toronto with a home and life-changing programs. Congratulations to Mr. Jack Torossian of Golden Bee Homes Inc the recipient of the inaugural Ignat Kaneff Inspiration Award.
